Invoicing tips for consultants
- Separate retainer, extra hours and expenses so clients can approve each quickly.
- Attach receipts for reimbursable expenses.
- Include the PO number if the client uses one: invoices without it often get stuck in accounts payable.
What every consulting invoice should include
Your business details, the client's details, a unique invoice number, the invoice and due dates, an itemized list of work with prices, any tax, the total due, and clear payment instructions. The template above already has a spot for each.
