Square fees by plan

Square's rates depend on how the customer pays and which plan you're on. Tapping, dipping or swiping a card in person is cheapest, from 2.6% + $0.15 on the Free plan. Online and invoice card payments cost 3.3% + $0.30 on Free and 2.9% + $0.30 on Plus and Premium. Keyed-in cards are the most expensive at 3.5% + $0.15.

For large invoices, ask customers to pay by bank transfer (ACH): 1% with a $1 minimum.

Why are keyed-in payments more expensive?

Manually entered cards carry more fraud risk, so Square charges 3.5% + $0.15.

Is it cheaper to have customers pay Square invoices by bank?

For anything over about $25, yes. ACH costs 1% (minimum $1) versus around 3% for cards.
